Custom golf adventures to Scotland and Ireland for the budget minded golfer
The British Golf Museum in St Andrews, Scotland states “A golf links is a stretch of land near the coast characterised by undulating terrain, often associated with dunes, infertile sandy soil and indigenous grasses such as marram, sea lyme and the fescues and bents which, when properly managed, produce the fine textured turf for which links are famed.” The great game of golf was born on linksland. Links golf is golf in it’s best and purest form!
Of the world’s 30,000+ golf courses, only about 250 are links courses. Currently, there are 84 in Scotland, 58 in Ireland and 53 in England and 15 in Wales. Great Britain and Ireland account for 210 of the world’s links courses. By contrast there are 4 links courses in the USA. Of the 250 links courses worldwide, 30 are on the Top 100 golf courses of the world list as defined by Golf Digest. So they occupy 30% of the best courses in the world, even though the pool of real links couses is 0.008% of the worlds courses. Simply, links golf is coveted by many.
